customer service customer satisfaction

Swedes have higher expectations of customer service

The Swedish Quality Index (SKI) recently published Sverigekollen 2023, a report providing an overview of customer behaviours during the past year. In a world characterised by crisis and constant change, the report reflects on the paradoxes and challenges facing companies and organisations.

What becomes clear in the report is that Swedish customers are placing increasingly high demands on quality compared with previously, and the ratings for most industries have fallen. The increased demand for overall quality signals a shift in customer expectations and highlights the importance of companies adapting their services and products to meet these demands in order to maintain high customer satisfaction.

”We find ourselves in a time of permacrisis, where threats and opportunities constantly coexist,” says Jacob Hallencreutz, Chairman of the Board at the Swedish Quality Index. ”The new normal requires flexibility and responsiveness from both companies and organisations.”

Sverigekollen 2023 clearly shows that fundamental customer preferences have been strengthened. Digitalisation, personal service, simplicity, sustainability and value for money remain the cornerstones for creating satisfied customers. A key observation is the increasing complexity surrounding customer loyalty, where differences between customers are becoming ever more prominent. Effective segmentation is becoming increasingly important to meet each customer's unique demands.

”There is no longer one path to success,” notes Johan Parmler, CEO of the Swedish Quality Index. ”Companies have to be ’good at everything’ to meet today's demands.”

Despite the general uncertainty, many organisations managed to maintain a stable core service and adapt to changes during 2023. Customer satisfaction decreased marginally for the second consecutive year, but the gap between high and low customer satisfaction is narrowing. The report shows significant differences in customer satisfaction across various industries and customer segments. Corporate customers in several industries are generally more satisfied compared to private customers. The industries most affected by the economic situation have also seen the largest drops in customer satisfaction. Private customers are primarily affected by external factors, whereas corporate customers place greater emphasis on their direct customer relationships with suppliers. This underlines the importance of adapting business strategies to meet the specific expectations and needs within each industry and customer segment.
